Biography

Scott Lauretti is the chief executive officer of SAL Companies, a privately held firm that he founded, which includes holdings in media, agriculture, commercial real estate, an retail. Before SAL was conceived, Scott, a founding member of Guggenheim Partners, the global financial services firm, enjoyed a 26-year career in corporate finance and securities trading. He served as the firm’s head of fixed income distribution, managing its core business unit. As executive in residence in the Parker College of Business, Lauretti teaches a strategic management course focused on social entrepreneurship.

In addition to his career with Guggenheim Partners, Lauretti has worked for Andersen Consulting, Lehman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley. At Morgan, he managed units of the firm’s sizeable mortgage-backed securities trading business.

Lauretti edits a bi-weekly city/lifestyle magazine that he founded in 2003. “The Skinnie,” with more than 530 issues in circulation to date, is the most-published full-size, full-color periodical in Southeast Georgia. Lauretti authors the magazine’s signature feature, an unflinchingly personal essay, “Up Front,” and he is at work on a pair of books. He owns a farm in Claxton, where he is developing olive-oil production capabilities and argi-tourism facilities. He has also begun to redevelop buildings in Claxton’s historic downtown core.

Lauretti serves as chair of the board of the Savannah Philharmonic, directing a strategic transformation that is a model for arts organizations across the country. He is board president of Horizons Savannah, a summer and supplemental educational and youth development organization, for which he also teaches middle school students during summers. He is a trustee of Savannah Country Day School and a board member of the Parker Community Foundation. Lauretti is a past chair of the board of the MedBank Foundation (a medication provider for the underinsured) and former president of the Italian Society of Savannah. He is a former trustee of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Heritage Endowment and a former board member of the Savannah Book Festival. He has served as a board member for Horizons National, the parent network of which Horizons Savannah is an affiliate. Lauretti is a member of social and civic clubs including The Chatham Club, The Chatham Group, The Oglethorpe Club, The Century Club, and The Savannah Golf Club.
