Message from the Dean
As we start a new academic year, I find myself thinking about A Day for Southern (ADFS). ADFS is a tradition, more than four decades old. On this one day last year, more than $2 million was given to the University by the faculty, staff, and members of the Statesboro and Bulloch County community. This year, the ADFS on-campus campaign began on August 21 and will culminate on September 9 with the community campaign.
But it’s on my mind now because it is essential to our future. As a College of Business and a University, we compete at the highest level. We compete for the best students and faculty. We compete to provide world-class facilities and a cutting edge education. And, we compete for the resources required to succeed.
So, when I think about our students, our faculty, and the start of a new year, I also think about those who have supported us, in Statesboro and beyond. We appreciate your partnership and your investment. And we ask, once again, that you join us in our journey toward national prominence.
Alumni Spotlight – Lee Huggins
Lee Huggins is a 1986 Georgia Southern business graduate. He earned a BBA in management information systems (MIS). Today, Lee serves as the senior vice president for Total Software Solutions (TSS), a leading global provider of operational and business support systems (OSS/BSS) in wireless communications. With more than 300 implementations in 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless communications, TSS has been recognized as a distinguished services provider offering both licensed and managed services solutions. Previously, Lee held a number of key leadership positions at VeriSign including vice president engineering, vice president products, and, ultimately, as senior vice president and general manager. Lee played a key role in VeriSign’s expansion to becoming a global leading provider of internet services, content, communications, and commerce (IC3). Prior to joining VeriSign, Lee served in leadership roles at HO Systems. HO Systems, acquired by VeriSign in 2001, was a pioneer in the wireless industry developing the first UNIX-based OSS/BSS systems for wireless operators. Lee holds several patents in the wireless industry and is also the founder of SAVHTECH. Lee and his wife, Liz, are both Georgia Southern graduates and share a passion for the University’s continued success. Their two children, Garrison and Elizabeth, currently attend Georgia Southern.
A Day for Southern
The annual campaign, A Day for Southern, will take place the second Tuesday in September, September 9. Since 1998, the campaign has raised more than one million dollars per year. During A Day for Southern, local businesses, individuals, and Georgia Southern faculty and staff provide financial support for University programs not covered by state funding. Gifts of all amounts are welcome and help with the educational needs of our students. Eagle Executive Exchange Events
Beginning this fall, we will hold our new Eagle Executive Exchanges, starting with one on our home turf in Statesboro on Thursday, September 18, 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Georgia Southern Golf Course. These events are being created for “Connecting the Eagle Executive Network,” providing opportunities to meet with other members of your community who graduated from the College of Business—a time to get to know each other and exchange business cards, ideas, and stories about your days at Georgia Southern. You may be surprised to learn that someone you have known for years also graduated from the Georgia Southern College of Business. Invitations will be mailed for each event.

Our House is Tobacco-Free
As of August 1, 2014, Georgia Southern University became a tobacco-free campus in compliance with the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia policy 9.1.7.
