Savannah MBA Program Learning Goals
Learning goals state the educational expectations for a degree program in terms of the intellectual and behavioral competencies it strives to instill. The Parker Professional MBA Program is designed to increase your competency in four key skill sets: digital and analytical skills, business skills and environmental awareness, leadership and people skills, and ethical behavior.
Digital and Analytical Skills. Digital skills refer to the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share, and create content using information technologies and the Internet. Analytical skills refer to the ability to collect and analyze information, problem-solve, and make decisions.
Learning Goal 1: Our graduates will use digital and analytical skills to transform data into the information needed for analysis and decision making.
Business Skills and Environmental Awareness. Business skills refer to a basic understanding of the structures, operations and performance associated with the functional areas of the business such as marketing, finance and accounting, production, information systems, and human resources. Environmental awareness both refers to understanding the market and industry in which the business operates and being aware of the natural environment and making business decisions that sustain or benefit the environment. Strategic decisions are those that impact the organization’s identity (i.e., why it exists) and direction. These decisions and actions usually influence the whole or a major part of the business and have long-term implications. Tactical decisions relate to the implementation of strategic decisions. They are directed towards developing divi¬sional plans, structuring workflows, establishing distribution chan¬nels, and acquiring resources. Operational decisions relate to the day-to-day op¬erations of the enterprise. They have a short-term horizon, are made repetitively, and are based on facts existing at the time the decision is made.
Learning Goal 2: Our graduates will use business skills and environmental awareness to evaluate business decisions in domestic and global settings.
Leadership and People Skills. Leadership is influence. Influence is the ability to have an effect on people, relationships, processes, and products while driving performance. Leadership skills encompass team building, coaching/mentoring, and change management. Team building is the ability to drive team performance by promoting and encouraging participation and the sharing of ideas. Coaching/mentoring is the ability to train and advise others on how to perform, improve, and succeed. Change management is the ability to prepare, equip, and provide support to individuals so that they can successfully adopt change. People skills refer to the ability to get along with others, to resolve conflicts through effective negotiation skills, to communicate ideas effectively, and to establish relationships and cross-functional partnerships to create value for the business.
Learning Goal 3: Our graduates will increase organizational effectiveness by using their soft skills to influence and inspire others.
Ethics, Honesty, Integrity, and Professionalism. Ethics refers to the rules and regulations that have been formed which allow an individual to work in accordance to moral principles. Honesty means adhering to the facts with fairness and straightforwardness of conduct. Integrity is the quality of being honest and fair. Ethics are established externally whereas integrity comes from within a person. Professionalism refers to the skills, competence, and conduct (e.g., ethics, integrity, and politeness) that mark a professional person and implies a higher quality of workmanship or service.
Learning Goal 4. Our graduates will understand the importance of evaluating business decisions through the lens of ethics, integrity, and professionalism.
In short, the Parker MBA Program seeks to create organizational leaders who have strong analytical and technical skills, business and functional skills, and people and leadership skills and who evaluate business decisions through the lens of ethics, honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
