The economics program at Georgia Southern University offers two different four-year bachelor’s degrees and one specialization designed to give students a broad knowledge of economics. In addition, the Department of Economics offers a Master of Science in Applied Economics as well as a Graduate Certificate in Applied Economics. Economics students are engaged in advanced research which leads to conference presentation, peer-reviewed publications, co-authorship with professors, on- and off-campus recognition and awards for research and writing.

The Department of Economics maintains a close link with the business community; a large number of internship opportunities are available to economics students in areas as diverse as economic development, marketing research and finance. Economic graduates are sought after by employers for their strong analytical skills and training in problem solving and earn higher average pay than most other disciplines.

This major is designed to give students a broad knowledge of the field of economics to provide a foundation for professional careers in business and industry or for graduate training in economics.

Emphasis in International Business

Students who major in economics may choose an emphasis in international business. This curriculum prepares students to deal with the problems and opportunities of international trade, international finance, global economic markets, and multi-national organizations. This emphasis only available for the BBA degree.
