Cochran Presents to INFORMS
On August 24, James J. Cochran, Ph.D., associate dean for faculty and research, professor of statistics, and Rogers-Spivey Endowed Faculty Fellow, The University of Alabama, made a presentation to the Georgia Southern student chapter of INFORMS as part of the organization’s guest speaker series “Emerging Field of Analytics.” With an impressive turnout of 329 students, Cochran’s presentation was very informative and touched on many aspects of analytics including skill sets, careers, graduate programs, and future demand and supply of analytical professionals, among other things. Student feedback after the event was very favorable with most students indicating they did not realize the extent that companies use analytics and were unaware of the different areas that use analytics. Janet Moss, principal lecturer of enterprise systems & analytics and chapter advisor, commented, “Hopefully, this [type of presentation] will encourage many students to explore our [Enterprise Systems & Analytics] program.”
