Michael Reksulak’s Free Enterprise Column

Michael Reksulak’s latest Free Enterprise column is titled “Productivity and productive policy.” In his column, Michael cites a paper that punches holes in the argument that manufacturing is making a comeback in the U.S.

Though productivity growth in the computer industry appears robust, elsewhere in all other non-computer industries, the growth is miniscule.  This leads Michael to state:

“Future manufacturing jobs in this country will – if at all – be found in factories that supply the so-called knowledge industries.”

Further, he says:

“To be competitive in this area, we have to stop the self-defeating policy of cutting back public investment in (public) education whenever the economy hits a rough patch.”
